Kareen & Robert Horne were a formidable duo both in the kitchen and outside. Their passion was simply being the best and worked with youngsters instilling a passion for the catering industry. They worked hard to produce a cookery book to raise funds for Roxburghe House and Fraserburgh Stroke Unit. The first 500 books are sold with only 270 left from the next 500.Their cookery book, priced at £10.00, is available from The Albert Hotel, Peterhead 472391. Buying this book will achieve their dream.

Tuesday 22nd January

The Longside Branch of the Royal British Legion is hosting its Annual General Meeting in the Longside FC Clubrooms at 7.30pm. All members welcome.

Monday 28th January

Prize Bingo at the Old Parish Church Coffee Lounge, Barrasgate Road, Fraserburgh at 7.00pm. Proceeds raised will go to Beldy Blackhall's grandchild Levi's £1 Spring Challenge to raise funds for the refurbishment of the toilets at the Coffee Lounge. All ages welcome and raffles gratefully received. Pay at the door.

Friday 1st February

A Prize Bingo hosted by Peterhead Engineers Development will be held at the Ban Car Hotel, Lonmay. Doors open at 7 for a 7.30pm start. Entry is £2 and includes refreshments; there will also be various raffles and a bottle stall. Funds raised will be donated to ‘Shirley’s Space’ an upcoming project to create a local mental health facility within the Fraserburgh/Peterhead district.

Tuesday 5th February

The new Kadampa Meditation Centre in Aberdeen (formerly the Arts Centre) is hosting the National Spiritual Director, Kadam Bridget Heyes at 7pm to give a talk on the art of positive thinking. Come along and realise the benefits of meditation and positive mental habits in a way that is easy to practice and integrate into daily life. Entry is free.

Saturday 9th February

An Indoor Car Boot Sale will be held from 10am to 3pm at the Apex Church Hall. If you want a table please call Ann on 07403 239 004. Funds raised are in aid of the Peterhead Relay for Life.

Saturday 16th February

The Fraserburgh Cats Protection is holding a Fun Pub Quiz at the Elizabethan Bar and Lounge, Fraserburgh. Teams of 4 at £2.50 per head, under 14's go free. Refreshments provided at half time and a raffle will follow the Quiz.

Wednesday 27th February

The next meeting of the Banff Accordion & Fiddle Club takes place at the Banff Springs Hotel from 7.30pm. This month the special guests Alan Small & Gemma Donald. Come along for a great night of Scottish music.

Saturday 30th March

If you like your music from three decades ago, Peterhead FC Supporters Club will hold an 80s disco night at Balmoor Stadium at 7.30pm. Tickets, which are priced at £5, are now available from the bar. 

Ongoing Announcements

The Boys' Brigade is a volunteer led youth organisation working with children and young people across the country with 38 being in the north east of Scotland. There are 10 Boys' Brigade companies in Buchan- Peterhead, three in Fraserburgh, St Combs, Sandhaven, Rosehearty, New Pitsligo, New Deer and Strichen and at the moment there are volunteering opportunities specifically in Rosehearty and New Pitsligo but all companies would welcome new volunteers. There is training and support available and it's a great opportunity to develop skills, try something new and meet people from across the area. Too busy through the week to seek advice? Banff & Buchan Citizens Advice Bureau will be running a pilot drop in every Saturday starting 19th January in their main office at Townhouse, Broad Street, Peterhead between 10am -12 noon. This pilot will run until end of March. Trained Advisors will be on hand to help with benefits, debt, employment, form filling or just generalist enquiries. Why not get a Financial Health check while you’re there, make sure you are receiving all you are entitled to. The service is free, confidential and impartial.

‘Boogie In The Bar’ will be held on the first Thursday of every month from 1 to 3.30pm in the Peterhead FC lounge. Soup and sandwiches will be provided. Join in for a friendly, relaxed afternoon boogie that is dementia friendly. For more details call 01779 472 042.

Age Peterhead provides a ‘sitter service’ to relieve carers in the immediate local area. Sitters can provide company for short periods of time allowing their family or carers time off to do essential tasks. Usually, sitters are provided by arrangement with Aberdeenshire Social Work Department, but occasionally they can be provided on a private basis. Y Suffer in Silence offer Group Emotional Support, 121 Support and Telephone Support to those suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Stress and Mental Health. They meet every Monday and Friday from 7 to 9pm at the Old Thomas Walker Hospital (Above Maitland’s Warehouse) on Charlotte Street, Fraserburgh. "Experiences" Peterhead & District Cancer Support Group welcomes everyone affected by cancer to meetings held every second Wednesday of the month at The Albert Hotel, Queen Street, Peterhead. Lifts can be arranged to the meetings. Call Kathleen on 01779 477693 or Frances on 475936.
